| Antique Curve Top Trunk Original Canvas - Key - Tray Whalen Harness & Trunk Mfg Manchester, NH. - Maker Circa 1900 SOLD This antique trunk measures 32.5"L X 22.5"H X 20"W and retains its original canvas and paint other than one strip on the bottom front which had damage to the canvas only. Wasn't totally convinced I could run an new strip of canvas and match the old paint color spot on. Instead, I took another route and inserted a strip of leather hide in its place. Looks nice and brings in more colors. Was not so much planning on this so a couple of the photo's were taken without the leather straps. I was having a set made a little lighter in color to match at the time and they are shown in the last photo. The trim on this trunk is a compressed fibre which was popular in its day and gives it a leather trimmed look. Latches work fine, lock comes with its original key, original brass makers label, and everything is tight and sound. It is on the sturdy side as things go. The entire trunk has been given a water resistant finish and it wipes down the same as any furniture. The interior is lightly finished wood and this trunk appears to be made of solid birch or other light hardwood rather than pine. No tray was present when found so one has been made for it. |
