| Antique Barrel Stave Trunk Full Original Interior Circa 1880 SOLD A nice barrel stave trunk from around 1880. This trunk measures 32"L X 25"H X 19.5"W which is a nice size and it is marked on various hardware pieces with patent dates of 1872 and 1877. The handles are oak wood and original. Opens and shuts just fine and the latches work great. The interior is all original and was just lightly cleaned. Various lithographs, trims, and papers were used in the decoration. On the nice covered tray there was some damage to the very bottom on one corner and it was necessary to cut in another piece of wood (1890's pine of same thickness) about the size of my hand but it is under the lid and up against the front board so not so visible. There are various small spots of missing paper where it would rub with the tray going in and out for example, but overall, about 97% complete. The inside did not have any odor when found and is very suitable for storage. Given the choice of storage on good original paper or wood, the paper is hard to beat. A light wiping down at your home will more make it yours. Fighting the sun which lit the trunk up a bit much. The very first photo is more correct if not even a touch darker. It has a very nice light brownish tone in person, not red. |
