A very nice barrel stave trunk from around 1880. Constructed of extra thick pine with hardwood
dome and slats. This trunk measures a very hard to find 26.75"L X 23"H X 18"W and is quite
endearing probably originally belonging to a child or teen. It is OK for big people to own it too these
days.
The hardware and metal trim have been cleaned up but unfortunately the top part of the lock was
missing when found and the bottom half was from a later trunk. I went ahead and removed it and
installed some plate steel over the lock hole. If you wish a little more "security" I can install a hasp
and an antique replica padlock with keys to complete the mini pirates chest
New handles have been installed and the bottom has been brought to tip top shape. The small
wheels with cast steel frame extending up the trunk sides are intact.
Originally this was a high end trunk with tooled leather exterior. While it is unfortunate that the
original covering took another fork in the road, the base construction is still much better than most
trunks ever made and you can feel the quality. It is not a flimsy trunk, and for its size, a load to carry.
Sitting among some larger trunks I have, it is not intimidated. I highly recommend.
