A very nice metal covered barrel stave trunk from the 1880's. This particular trunk measures a
graceful size 34"L X 25"H X 19.5"W and is very soundly built. Looks like solid pine body with a two
board hardwood dome of birch I believe. The main exterior is covered in a good thickness metal that
is in wonderful shape and the edging and strip down the middle is a ribbed metal that is original to
the trunk. Over everything are nice oak slats. All hardware is intact and the lock carries a patent date
of 1877.
This trunk has been freshly sprayed in a nice shade of brown with black trim and then a clear coat
applied. This shade of brown does a pretty decent good job of appearing as leather under normal
lighting and it displays in a distinguished manner. Opens and shut like new and really just a nice
solid trunk with barely a ding in the metal. Quite remarkable given its age.
The interior is finished wood and suitable for storage as you wish.
The bottom is like new with its small wheels and hardwood slats firmly attached.
