| Vintage Wardrobe Trunk Circa 1940 $500 Includes Shipping A nice circa 1940 wardrobe trunk that when new was not top of the line. However, since that time, it has been kept in very good condition, and today, displays wonderfully. The outside has been well cleaned and placed under a light finish. There are scuffs and scratches and minor wear but nothing bad at all. The primary color is sort of an olive and the trim is brown. As we were able to just clean up and rework what was already there, the small details such as the large brass plated nails securing the trim for example are still visible. More of an original look because that is what it is. Latch works perfectly but the outside lock is not functional. I was however able to fit the interior drawer lock with a working key and it functions effortlessly. The original leather handle was just in too good a condition to warrant replacing and the bottom of this trunk is in just as good a condition as the top. The inside back and areas other then the drawer facings are covered in a patterned paper. Sort of a flower pattern but not really and I believe you guys could pull off owning it without too much trouble. The drawer facing and flip top area is covered in a gold colored thin vinyl. The gold vinyl is pretty much tip top other than being less vibrant than when new. The patterned paper has darkened some on the side with the hangers and lighter behind the drawers where less air got to it. Just normal aging and I cleaned it myself. I believe there are 8 hangers of various types, the adjustable bar to snug in your hanging clothes, the shoe box, and a locking rod to secure all the drawers when transporting. On the locking rod, you put it in place and then lock the top drawer which secures all the drawers. You need not use it and can just set it aside so someone will find it 50 years from now and say "what the heck did this go to?". The measurements are 40"H X 20.75"L X 21.5"W and this one is a bit smaller and lighter than most of the wardrobe trunks. Typically there is hanging bag over the hanger side that ends just above the shoe box. When you want to get to the hangers, you just flipped this over the top. Sure this one had one just don't see any traces of it. I'll take the 5 small screws out and install some material. Probably not going to sew in a big zipper like they had but will seam the edges and weight the bottom. Probably will be brownish, tan or something less then white unless you catch me before I do it and have a suggestion that would work for you. It is a nice looking, very clean and usable trunk with no odors. |
