When found, no lock was on this trunk. Some lock receivers were flush mount, others were
recessed and so a hole was needed. I wanted to go back with a hasp and oversize padlock (4" to
4.5" long) on this one rather than a regular trunk lock. The first couple of photo's show it without the
lock so you can see the hole that is there. The last photo shows the padlock installed and a piece of
full thickness leather covering the area and extending down over part of the old hasp I used. The
padlock functions and comes with two working keys.

Measuring a very large 36.5" L X 25.5"H X 21"W, this style is called a monitor trunk, I believe in
reference the civil war iron clad ship of the same name.  Perhaps some similarities between the
shape of the trunks top to the ships hull design.

It is a large trunk with a major amount of ornate cast hardware (60 pieces) and pretty good old pirate
chest appeal.  The metal has been cleaned of any rust and left with some natural patina so there is
no paint on this one and the metal is a gun metal gray color and heavily coated. The wood is its
natural color being no stains were used and some of the old sawmill marks were retained. When
found, there were some issues with the metal banding and front hardware. Same age banding was
used to fill in the missing sections (matches great) and short leather straps were installed on the
front as well as a hasp to accept a padlock. I will include a working oversize antique replica padlock
with 2 keys.  New leather handles were installed and it comes complete with a nice knothole on the
back top.

The inside is finished wood that is beautifully colored. Plenty of storage space here.

Cost me a little bit to get this one and it was challenging and time consuming but a really nice
looking antique trunk what will draw you over to see the details.
