Measuring 34.5"L X 26"H X 21.75"W, this antique trunk came about in the mid to later 1870's. It's
outer covering is primarily of zinc which makes it a top shelf trunk in its day. Zinc trunks were prized
and could cost several times what other trunks ran when new. They do not rust and the blueish
gray you see on the outside flat metal and edging is this trunks natural color, no paint. The strips of
black are regular metal and freshly painted. Being a high quality trunk in its day, it is also adorned
with wide wood slats that are grooved, brass capped slat ends, and the highest quality solid brass
double lock from Star Lock Works. There are a couple condition issues in that some of the thin
brass on the slat ends are damaged and both the upper sections of the lock are missing. This style
of lock would engage without the key and obviously that presented a problem for someone who
must have busted into it. The damage to the brass covering on the slats looks like natural wear and
tear so I just went with it. For the lock, I made a leather lock cover which some trunks did have and it
is not clear to those viewing the trunk that there are missing pieces. On the lock you will see a large
star on the bottom section. You can twist the star to reveal the keyhole. Great lock, wish it were not
incomplete, but we do what we can and it is not distracting. New handles, the bottom is like new, it
retains its original wheels which run up the sides, and it is just a good solid trunk. The top of this
trunk is made from a single large board which was curved to shape.

The interior was largely missing when found so the wood has been refinished and the natural
coloring is very nice and suitable for storage as you wish.

A good collectible solid made antique trunk.
