Vintage Wardrobe Trunk
"The Royalrobe"
Circa 1935
SOLD

This vintage piece was patented as "The RoyalRobe Trunk" and I believe made by the Seward
Trunk Company out of Petersburg, Virginia in the 1930's era. Standing up it measures
approximately 22"L X 41"H X 22"W, or laying down 41"L X 22"H X 22"W.

The trim is a brown very durable vulcanized material which is near indestructible while the main
body of the trunk is finished wood. The primary woods appear to be a birch ply with a pine ply top.
Very nice coloring in person with the birch being on the blond side and the pine its classic orange
tint. Some buckling to the top layer of ply here and there but only cosmetic and still very strong. No
"decay" of any sort. The hardware is all original with natural patina and the latches work perfectly.
The lock is a Yale paracentric lock, and while original, the locking mechanism is no more. Opens
and shuts easily and overall a well built wardrobe trunk.

The interior is black stripped in color with brown cloth covering the hanger side. On the other side
are 5 drawers for storage as you wish.

If you already own a wardrobe trunk, please note - It is not typical to be able to the remove the outer
covering of wardrobe trunks should you already own one. Those that have a "rubbery" or fibrous
covering, please do not attempt is my advice. For those that have a canvas covering, under the
canvas is a ton of glue like we do not see today. If the canvas is still firmly attached, it will be a tough
road and then there is the glue to deal with. Just on rare occasions do I find them where the canvas
has released and the trunk is still in good solid order. It would not be my wish for you to get started
and realize it is a bit much and the trunk in a worse state than it began. Just trying to help.
