| A paper covered trunk from the early 1860's which had been painted green and was minus its lock. Under the green was some very pretty pine and oak slats and another lock was installed. No key is present but the lock is complete should you wish to track one down. The bottom part is in the locked position to not be a catch hazard. It measures 28"L X 22"H X 17"W which is unusually tall for this style and it displays very nicely and the coloring is very warm in the range of an old oak floor. New stitched handles were installed and it opens and shuts perfectly. The bottom is super solid being a single board (finished wood) and its early style wheels are attached. All metal banding is very good and its original buttons which secure the banding are present. The interior is original although it has been cleaned and a finish coat applied to protect you from it and it from you. The original tray sits up nicely and would be perfect for displaying your treasures. On the inside lid is an 1864 picture of two ladies and a young girl in their finest hoop skirts and the coloring is very vibrant in person. I do not believe the picture to be original to the trunk but added still in the 1800's and trimmed out nicely. A cloth band was installed to hold the lid properly as was original to this trunk A very nice size and rock solid antique trunk. |
