Antique Immigrants Chest
Original Grain Paint - Two Locks - Dovetailed Under Metal Banding
Large Scripted Letting
Circa 1840's
$425
SOLD

A very nice immigrants chest with original grain paint which measures 36"L X 19.5"H X 18.25"W.
This chest appears to have come from Bremen, Germany and scripted on the top very large is:

H. Mosinger
(Bremen)
New York

I'm going with it originated in Bremen and carried the belongings of H. Mosinger to the port of New
York some time ago.

This chest is in remarkable original condition with only a slight cleaning and removal of some white
paint splatter. Nothing severe at all. The grain paint is original and in very good condition with
proper wear being more used on the top and the back slightly lighter in color aging less against a
wall. The hardware is painted as well with some wear and proper crazing. This chest has two locks
but no key is available. The original metal handles are present and quite nice with the center piece
being the color of pewter. All metal banding is present and secure and held in place by large headed
hand forged nails. The end metal has a nice scallop cut to it and this metal protects the dovetailed
construction which you cannot see under it and the paint but slightly visible from the inside. The
hinges are original and very secure having been forged with the metal strapping.  The chest bottom
is strong like day one with proper board shrinkage and a woodworm mark here and there. There is a
straight crack across the top which almost looks like a wood join and really just not a thing wrong
with this chest other that.

The inside is unfinished wood which has always been kept very clean.
