Medium Size Antique Chest
Original Oak Handles
Civil War Era
SOLD
In the 1860's, this was a very nice paper covered trunk. Sometime after that, it was used extensively
as evident by about 30 small railroad tag nails. When found, most of the metal banding was
damaged as were two slats and many of its steel buttons missing. On top of that, it had been
painted baby blue....over mustard yellow. It was sort of a wreck. However, what was nice is its larger
size for a trunk of this type at 35.5"L X 18"H X 16"W and original lock and oak handles.  The dome
top being one board did not hurt matters. It has been left more in the manner of an antique chest
with all the damaged metal banding removed. There are light spots and dark spots and probably a
spot of old blue paint here and there but it is very solid and has a slightly different look about it. The
original hinges are intact and operate fine and the very bottom is wood with its original oak runners
which are in great shape. No metal wheels on this one.

Of note is that facing the trunk, on the left lip is a missing chunk of wood that leaves a gap when it is
closed. Also, a few stray spots of blue paint may remain. I think one is shown in the wood closeup
photo.
