| When I first purchased this antique or vintage (1954) Admiral console stereo with record player, I didn't think there was much special about it over the other items I picked up that day. However, after sprucing it up just a bit and placing it into a room, it has become my favorite item. Back in its day, Admiral was a very quality maker of TV's and items such as this. The cabinet is solid wood and is in exceptional condition. The front speaker grills are clean and original and overall it looks fantastic. The internals consist of the original one huge speaker and solid state tubes which sound great. Everything is in good condition and there has not been any "hacking around" inside. The front has two drawers that open. Once side reveals the stereo which folds very neatly and looks like a speedometer off an antique car. No problems. The other side folds out to reveal a record player that plays 78's and 33's type records utilizing 2 different arms. I believe both needles are there and appear to work well.....they make noise when touched and the table turns. Getting quite a bit harder to find anything to enjoy those great old 78's on. The best part is just turning it on and closing it up and enjoying the nice tube sound, unless you just want to see the radio tuner light up or peek around back at the tubes glowing. |
