| A wonderful folk art antique game table for chess or checkers that was most likely hand made around 1910. It measures approx. 21" square and 28" tall and has a recessed, permanent game surface made from 2" square tiles. I have seen tiles like this in very old houses and they appear to have originally been white and brown, but most likely were coated with shellac when the table was first made. Over the years the white has aged to a beautiful yellowish color. In the evening this table top just glows and has a great 3-D effect. The table itself is quite heavy and very sturdy. It has two doors in the front for storage and a lower shelf that appears to have been made to hold a movable board for the ambitious folks that perhaps play two chess or checker games at a time. This game table has aged wonderfully and has that perfect folk art or primitive look. It has great character and appeal and if you do not mind a slightly primitive piece, I guarantee you will not to be disappointed in this hard to find antique. Nice size and super solid. |
